I have learned to be slower to judge in my older years because thru the years of life I have learned that judgement is often wrong because I didn’t know all information. It might be helpful to you who felt it ok to judge Russ on leaving the Imperials to watch the video of his testimony that is on youtube.

He won 3 Grammy’s solo, 4 for his work with the Gaithers and the Imperials. Understand I’m not attacking his work with the Imperials, I love it! Personally, I probably listen to it more than his solo stuff. I’m just just saying that it’s incredibly erroneous to say he didn’t acheive remarkable success on his own. The Imperials need him, but he doesn’t need them.

Well, I remember those hits, and I remember the way his solo albums charted well. He won 2 dove awards with the Imperials and 6 on his own. I’m looking up the info on sales and chart position. I’ll post it when I find it.

The hits I remember…are not from walls of glass or any other Russ Taff solo album. The ones i remember are, Sail On, Old Buddah, Trumpet of Jesus, I’m Forgivin, Praise the Lord, and the list is endless. That may be just me, but both Russ Taff nor the Imperials were never the same. If not for Bill Gaither a whole generation of christians wouldn’t even know who Russ Taff is. I think part of my opinion stems from being a quartet fan and not a contemporary fan. God Bless.

@sundaypunchr I’m sorry but that’s just not correct. Medals & Russ Taff were huge albums. I’m pretty sure they sold more than “Priority” of “One More Song”. Don’t get me wrong, I still listen to those albums, they’re awesome, Im just saying that it’s not correct to say he didn’t have tremendous success afetr the Imperials. It’s like saying Bryan Duncan did better with Sweet Comfort.

I personally think Russ made the WRONG decision when he left the Imperials. Because lets face it…it basically ended his run. I know he is still singing…he recently did a stint with the Gaither Vocal Band…but after he left…neither he NOR the Imperials were the same. Having said that….we have no idea what made him leave…I just wish he hadn’t. Just my opinion.

Thank you for posting this. I have often shared this with hurting friends, and it has blessed me time and time again too. Also loved it when Russ sang this with the Imperials!

Close to 30 years since I first was touched by this and I still am. It’s one of those things that the lord has hidden in my heart and the song has played within me many times as a prayer.

this song was one of the Imperials classics which got me thru college in the early 80s. My sister witnessed to me with their music before I got saved…and when I finally DID–this group of lads were my first musical taste of worship.

This was sung at my Mom’s funeral. It was a comfort to our family. I Love You Mom. I’m so glad you made Jesus your Saviour. We’re carrying on. Also dedicated to Betty, who just lost her Dad. Time heals Betty. God bless and comfort you. Dan

Haven’t heard this one in 20 years! In high school I must have listened to this one at least 100 times. The studio recording’s backup vocals were less present, but this one’s still good.
